Katy says:
"Whoooooo boy! This plant's common name is "Epazote"....
think Mexican food.
Did a Dr. Duke's Pharmacy Database search on
Chenopodium anthelminticum L. and got nothing. But did a search
in his alphabetized plants and found:
Chenopodium ambrosioides L.
(Chenopodiaceae)
Epazote, Wormseed
Chenopodium album L.
(Chenopodiaceae) --
Lambsquarter
That study showing the active chemical of ASCARIDOL (possibly
misspelled, should be: ASCARIDOLE....which is of course one that
KILLS parasites and also exhibits antineoplastic activity (kills
cancers).
The Wormseed leaf has 18,000 parts per million of ascaridole in
it.
Guess what? Epazote (wormseed) is a little known, but absolutely
CLASSICALLY important ingredient in authentic mexican food
sauces. Some seed catalogs sell Epazote seed.
Its basically a
common weed. I've purchased the "herb" for my own uses in my own
love affair with all things "mexican"....but I am absolutely
going to buy the seed for planting a section of this.
This herb
could be used in many, many food recipes.
Of course, our darlin' little ole' LAMBSQUARTER is already a
favorite of many of us to include in our tossed salads. But it
evidentally does not have much ascaridole in it.
It just is of
the same family.
