Various studies on this aspect of Vitamin E

"Vitamin E succinate (VES) induces Fas sensitivity in human breast cancer cells: role for MR 43,000 Fas in VES triggered apoptosis" Cancer Res 1996 Feb 15;59(4):953-61

NOTE:What this study describes is how human breast cancer cells become more likely to die (apoptosis means cell death) when pretreateed with VES.

"Vitamin E succinate inhibits proliferation of BT-20 human breast cancer cells: increased binding of cyclin A negatively regulates E2F transactivation activity" Cancer Res 1997 Jul 1;57:2668-75

NOTE: What this study describes is that in human breast cancer cells with ER receptor negative status, the Vitamin E succinate actually stopped cell growth. This could be very important for women with Estrogen receptor negative breast cancer. This type of tumor doesn't respond well to conventional treatment. Perhaps Vitamin E succinate would be a good supplement to take.

Another study dealt with Estrogen receptor negative breast cancer as well. "Vitamin E succinate (VES) induces Fas-mediated apoptosis in estrogen receptor negative human breast cancer cells" Cancer Res 1997 Mar 1;57(5):881-90 This study suggests that VES may be of use in the clinical or treatment setting for estrogen receptor negative breast cancers.

In this same article a discussion of a study from Mol Aspects Med (England) 1994;15 Suppl discussed a study called "Apparent partial remission of breast cancer in 'high risk' patients supplemented with nutritional antioxidants, essential fatty acids and coenzyme Q10" Partial remission sounds good. It fits in with the belief that supplements and nutritional intervention CAN affect your disease and overall health.

Antioxidants are Vitamin E,C,A and selenium. Also add Flaxseed oil, CoQ10 and Vitamin D. These all have shown anticancer benefits and are used by a large minority of people with cancer. There are at least two hundred studies discussing the value of supplements and vitamins for cancer patients. These nutrients help support the normal functions of the body and are not seen to interfere with conventional therapy. There have been NO studies which show interference. How that rumor got started, we don't really know.
